The dream suites at Hotel Danieli

Hotel Danieli

Charming and luxurious, you will find Hotel Danieli in one of the most exclusive locations in Venice, overlooking the lagoon, with a unique perspective on the Doge’s Palace and only a few steps from Piazza San Marco.
Spectacular feature of this historic 5-star hotel of the Starwood Luxury Collection is the hall: a real marvel, not to be missed.
The hotel is located at Palazzo Dandolo, which was built in the fifteenth century by the doge Enrico Dandolo on Riva degli Schiavoni. At that time, the city Senate encouraged the construction of opulent mansions extolling the power of Venice and this building was considered the noblest and most beautiful of all. After the fall of the Venetian Republic, the mansion went across ups and downs until, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Giuseppe Dal Niel bought it to turn it into an hotel, which he called the Royal Danieli. Today, the hotel occupies three buildings: in addition to  Palazzo Dandolo, in fact, guests can choose Palazzo Casanova or Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, also called “Danielino.” In 2008 a major restructuring plan was launched by the architects and interior designers of international fame, Jaques Garcia and Pierre-Yves Cochon.

Over time, this jewel of the lagoon has won many famous people such as King William of Prussia, Charles Dickens, Richard Wagner, Gianni Agnelli, Federico Fellini, Gina Lollobrigida, Sophia Loren, Martin Scorsese, Coco Chanel and Bill Gates. And has made three great divas like Maria Callas, Greta Garbo and Grace Kelly fall in love with Venice.

To these divas are in fact dedicated three historic suites restored by Pierre-Yves Cochon, all different from each other in styles and colors. In the suite that celebrates the soprano, there are green and sage shades and the walls are decorated with scores of her tunes. Also on the main floor is the room inspired by the elegance of Greta Garbo: decorated in warm shades of bronze, velvet and a large four-poster bed with tufted headboard. The living room with fireplace is decorated with precious marble, glass from Archimede Seguso and the picture of a beautiful eighteenth-century view of Piazza San Marco as well as by the images of the actress, framing a deco clock and by gold-leaf glass candelabra. Even the shower is beautiful, huge and minimal.

Then there is the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite, which was the residence of the Doge, a tribute to Italian craftsmanship and one of the hundred most beautiful suites in the world. On the ceiling of the immense bedroom is an original fresco of the eighteenth century by Jacopo Guarana, restored by the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Even the bathroom of this apartment of 150 square meters is a dream: it has gorgeous gold taps and a shower of six square meters with turkish bath.Pearl gray and powder pink are the shades in the suite dedicated to Grace Kelly, you will see a picture taken during a trip to Venice in 1967 portraying the princess at a costume party at Ca Rezzonico.
All these suites have a panoramic view over the lagoon, with the Giudecca island in the foreground and the Lido as background, Rubelli tapestries, fine linen sheets and every amenity imaginable.

The delights of Danieli do not end there: the hotel guests, but not limited to, can stop on the rooftop of the hotel for the exceptional view and exquisite Mediterranean and regional cuisine of the famous Terrazza Danieli.
